my fav is "Feel the fear and do it anyway". Most people who know me, would never believe I was ever shy or insecure. But when I realized no matter how perfect or imperfect you are people would judge me I decided the only real judge that counted was me!!! There will always be someone that runs faster or slower, someone prettier or less, someone smarter or not so smart, so be who you are - cause there is only one you.

Lara, facing fear really resonates with me too. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you, but you've thought it through, and that makes it doable. You go! Happy New year!

Ooh, that last one hits home with me, Lara. Fear. Not sure where it all came from for me. I put two little quotes on my cubicle wall:

1) "What would I do if I weren't afraid?" - From Who Moved My Cheese (good reading for dealing with change)

2) "I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it pass over me and through me. And when it has gone, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing, onlu I will remain." - Its from Dune. Its the Litany Against Fear. A little mantra some characters repeat to overcome fear.

I think you are in for some big changes in your life this year, Lara. Certainly seems like you are the catalyst for it. :)

Lara, your self-reflection is a positive thing, and it will lead to success (however you define that). The running will be much more fun with people; I know from my own experience. And #3 in the non-running category? Welcome to the club:) But I'm winning that battle...and you can too. Life is really too short to be all wrapped up in those fears. They can be conquered! Happy 2005. Go kick some ass:)

Great post! Great reflections and plans. I'm confident you'll have a great year. I especially like goal number 2. We've been doing the same thing and it is sometimes hard but makes you feel so much better about yourself and the world. Good luck with all your endeavors and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
