That's funny, Lara. That Garmin feature makes me mad!!! :) Sometimes I stop and yell at it. "NOTHING IS EVER GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU, IS IT? STUPID FORERUNNER." Luckily I am always alone, which doesn't make me any less crazy, just less embarrassed. :)

I always, always, always run my first mile too fast. No matter what. And even when I try the breathing 'tricks' (3/2 pattern or similar) I still find that my pacing is off. Sigh.

Garmin SOUNDS military. You didn't even have to name the little bugger. I named mine Gretchen cuz she strikes me as a tough female German coach. he does a lot of yelling too.

I sent Gretchen to Germany for the winter. ;)

I laughed, too, Lara. In fact, I was having the same problems with figuring out my pace today. Sometimes I feel like I'm hauling ass, and the Forerunner says otherwise...but overall, it does give me a better sense of what I'm doing than when I don't have it. Keep up the running/training. It sounds like things are going along well!

I laughed out loud regarding your little fight with the Garmin. It also reminds me that I don't really want that thing. I *think* I want it, but hearing your story reminds me I don't. It's like hearing about the "talking" pedometer. I couldn't imagine what it'd be saying. "One, two, three, four, five..." or would it be saying, "Stop looking around and get moving, fatso." Either way, not for me. : )

In heavily wooded areas if you run into difficulties, I've taken to using the Garmin more as a workout logger. After a run I can still see what my pace was for each section, after all. On the streets or open trails it works fine for me.

Also, set your pace averaging down to the minimum, otherwise its taking about 30-60 seconds and giving you the average (I think), which is pretty hard to see direct results on.

I think your Garmin and my Ghostrunner talk to each other.

Yes, they get confused with heavy clouds and trees. When I head into the woods, Ghostrunner says I've slower to 2:00 slower than my real pace. Annoying. I just manually hit the lap button when I pass a mile marker. In the end, the mileage is about the same (Ghostrunner vs Me). I think the pacing just gets confused.

And did you say "log cabin"? That's very cool! :)
