I'm thrilled with your books! I have one for the White Mountains that I'm plumbing right now for what might be a hike I could convert into a trail run. Fast Food Nation is fun, too. Great for feeling righteous indignation.

If it helps, I had the same concern. I was doing a walk break every kilometer when I started up after my MCL this time, and it was - not just concerning, but difficult to give it up. But you know what? It works. The hardest thing will be learning the difference between your body needing to walk, and your mind wanting to walk - especially since your mind is good at making it seem as if your body is the one complaining. Err on the side of caution, but not too much, and have a great run!

I had the same hang ups, Lara. I was worried about rules and expectations, my own and others. Finally I started running for myself and just tried to have fun. I even started running with a friend who was beginning...and we took lots of walk breaks initially. Do what feels good and it will all fall into place. Enjoy!

I read "Fast Food Nation" and I thought it was great! It was very disturbing, very well researched and argued, I thought, and it gave me pause about many issues. Thank goodness I'm a vegetarian! I'll be interested to hear your review.

Good luck in your ongoing training.
