		<description>Richard, I do both gastrocnemius and soleus stretches after running. They don't seem to have any positive or negative effect on the discomfort at the time but I know they're important and faithfully do them (along with a bunch of other stretches as well).

Chris, you are right that it could be a whole host of things other than bone spurs. I probably shouldn't jump the gun in my self-(mis)diagnosis :) I did see a podiatrist awhile back. He was the one to finally confirm my stress fracture but he did not treat me as it was above the ankle - he sent me to the orthped. I will definately see one of the two when I return from my trip if this pain is persisting or worsening.</description>

		<description>I forget. Have you gone to a podiatrist? There are scads of things that could be at the heart of your issue, not counting the bone spurs. Just trying to rule out poor foot strike.</description>

		<description>Are you loosening your achilles out after you run?  IIRC, one of the easiest stretches is to do a standard calf stretch, then do the same thing with your back leg bent rather than straight, keeping your heel on the ground.</description>
