Being without back pain for over six months!

One of the blessings I am counting after getting through the training, and running the Victoria Marathon is that I got through it WITHOUT a back injury.

I’m giving part of the credit (the first few months) to luck and being careful and the other part to the time I spent in the gym.

I just realized what my first post-marathon goal is: Keep going to the gym!!!

just weights today

One hour in the gym today. I felt a bit weak for some reason but managed to get everything done.

I’m gonna get a speedy 20 minute run in at lunch tomorrow and then maybe one more and that will be it before race day.

Boring post today! I guess I’m just really exhausted after facilitating a two-day procedure/communication workshop for a project I’ve been involved with off and on for the past three years (ya, government in action huh?!). It was just hellish but the good news is my boss says I’m D-O-N-E with that particular project.

Yay. Bring on the next take-forever-to-do-nothing-project.

Careful Mark, your attitude is showing.

weights are a good thing

As of today, I hadn’t lifted weights in one week. I finally went today after noticing my back getting progressively stiff over the last two days. Not now! It feels great after doing some crunches and back extensions (along with the other stuff).

I guess the lesson is pretty simple – KEEP AT IT!

signs of improvement?

Well, the weight training seems to be going well. Today, I did my usual routine but this time I added 10 pounds to a couple of the exercises and I increased many of them from 15 to 20 reps.

I don’t think I’m going to make 20 reps my goal. Instead, I think I’m going to work on increasing the weight and stay mostly with reps of 15. I don’t think this approach will put me out of the “low weight-high reps school of working out” for some time!

On other subjects: I had a pretty good bike ride against a TON of wind this morning and yesterday’s form/speed drills really did a number on me! My calves and upper glutes (ya, my BUTT!) are pretty sore but my attitude is BRING IT ON as long as it makes me lighter on my feet!

OH! One last thing: I definitely am losing some fat around my waist. You just gotta love this cross-training stuff!

WAHOO!!!!!!!!!
