That was Christopher’s greeting to me this morning (Lori had prepped him). The greeting I got from Cassandra was a little diddy that goes like this:

“Happy Birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. You look like a monkey. And you smell like one too”

Ahh kids. :D

HA! Gotcha! Nope, I am not getting married since I’m already married. :D

This post is just to tell you that I will not be doing much blog visiting for the next couple weeks due to being busy getting stuff ready for Aaron’s wedding which is FAST approaching. He’s tying the knot on June 25th!

happy birthday monkey boy

Christopher is three today.

There is no describing the happiness this little man brings me. Prior to becoming Christopher’s daddy, noone could have come close to describing the bond I’d grow to have with him.

One of the thoughts I often have when writing in this blog is that someday, my kids will read this and see it as a kind of window into daddy’s soul. With that thought in mind, these words are for you Christopher…

I love you boy. More than anything. There was, not so long ago, a time of great sadness when I thought I wasn’t going to get to be a daddy. It’s that memory I cling to whenever I wonder what I’ve gotten myself into each time I watch you pound my living room walls into pulp with anything you can find resembling a hammer, or wear down my patience with “why daddy, why daddy, why daddy…”

I remember the horror of seeing you fall off that ledge when you were only one year old and thinking…I’d lost you. I still have nightmares about that moment, but I also am grateful knowing it was God’s/the universe’s plan for teaching me the preciousness of your life.

I would step in front of a car for you Christopher. I would battle a hundred soldiers and trade my life to save yours and I’d make the decision to do so in less than a heartbeat.

Make my life Christopher. Grow up to be a happy, strong, honourable man.

You are my joy. Never forget that.

All my love Monkey Boy,
~Dad

that’s what it’s about!

This is a 100% non-running post.

Last night, Christopher had another one of his very restless sleeps. The boy is a terrible sleeper but you know that if you hang around my blog regularly.

So, this morning I woke up bleary-eyed with a Homer Simpson-like soundtrack going on in my brain something like, “must kill boy, must kill boy”.

I showered, dressed and got my lunch together and proceeded to say “see ya later” to the family. That’s when today’s gift happened.

Christopher said, “I love you daddy” for the very first time (choke) and my heart melted for the cajillionth time in the last 33 months.

With a big ol’ smile on my face, I put on my coat and yelled out “bye everyone” to which I was rewarded with another “I love you daddy”.

Choke.

Admission: It sounded more like scooby-doo saying “I ruv ru daddy” but I don’t give a damn. He said those words – twice. I swear it. :) :) :)

I’m gonna have a great run at lunch (I guess it’s only a 99% non-running post!).
