A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather - a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who’s beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

Have you ever stopped posting and then found it really hard to start again? Yeah? Well, here I am starting from the beginning so this one’s gonna be simple.

I took my son to a monster truck show last night. I’m not into that sort of thing but, of course, it’s irresitible to a five year old boy. He was SO excited. Note to the unitiated: GraveDigger rulz (sort of the Hulk Hogan of the monster truck gig)! Here’s a little collage I put together of our time there. Click on the pic to enlarge.

Back from a very, very very rainy camping trip. The video below is my favorite memory on a mostly gloomy week. Running-wise, I had some very interesting experiences but I’m too tired to write them up at the moment.

a happy wife is a good thing

passion for running category: friends & family on Friday, January 6 2006

My wife is very happy. Very very happy. Wanna know why? It’s because she got a new van. And man o’ man did she ever deserve it. Our old van was so old and decrepid, things were breaking and/or falling off every week. No joke.

Here’s Lori with her new baby:

pull my finger!

passion for running category: friends & family, running on Thursday, September 29 2005

I had a rather crappy 45 minute run with Aaron tonight. The company was fine - I just felt like crap the whole way. It seems I’m fighting a cold.

To the title of tonight’s post: I played pull my finger with Christopher tonight. It was the first time we’d done that and I’m kind of surprised I hadn’t thought of it before. I must be slipping. Anyway, Christopher loved it so much I felt a bit inadequate when I could only respond to the finger pulling three times. He giggled and giggled and giggled and damn near pulled my finger off trying to get a fourth response out of daddy. I guess I’ll have to eat some beans or something tomorrow. Still, he went to bed smiling so it wasn’t a total loss.

The wife and daughter were not amused. It’s usually when I post something like this when I check my logs and notice I had a visitor from that Forbes thing. I’m sure those Forbes readers really appreciate coming here to see this kind of thing after reading A Passion for Running was a “best” kind of place to come to. It appears I’ve sunken to a new low on this blog.

That said, it’s GREAT to be a guy!

40 minutes barefoot & poopiness

passion for running category: barefoot running, friends & family, running on Tuesday, September 13 2005

I was tired following yesterday’s run but got out there nonetheless because it was too beautiful not to run.

So, 40 minutes today in my bare feet and I have a new record for the number of strange looks i’ve gotten during a barefoot run - eight. :)

The boy is finally potty training and I have never been happier. I’m sure you are ecstatic for me especially if you’ve gone through this. I tell ya, when your child learns to do #2 in the toilet, the world is a much better place.

Rock on Christopher. Love,
Daddy

one picture from the wedding

Jon and Dawn asked to see some drunk wedding pictures. I don’t have any of those yet but I do have a photo the minister took of me and my daughter. As soon as I saw it, I loved it. It’s my favorite picture of her and I in the whole wide world. *sniff*

Yesterday, Aaron and I hooked up for two miles. We were both too exhausted from the weekend to go any further. I seriously could have done that run in my sleep! Today, I am feeling rested and will go for 7 or 8k.

happy bert-day daddy

That was Christopher’s greeting to me this morning (Lori had prepped him). The greeting I got from Cassandra was a little diddy that goes like this:

“Happy Birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. You look like a monkey. And you smell like one too”

Ahh kids. :D

wedding plans!

HA! Gotcha! Nope, I am not getting married since I’m already married. :D

This post is just to tell you that I will not be doing much blog visiting for the next couple weeks due to being busy getting stuff ready for Aaron’s wedding which is FAST approaching. He’s tying the knot on June 25th!
