I just came across your health and fitness blog. Your article about being in pain vs. being sore was especially interesting. I especially liked your comments about the quality of soreness after a good workout. I am adding you to my favorites. We're in the same industry, the business of encouraging health and fitness. We market a product called The AbStand: http://www.theabstand.net. We would love for you and your readers to check out our ab workout product. Any feedback would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

That's a fantastic understanding of the relationship between pain and sore. I'm often trying to help clients and acquaintances understand that.

Welcome back, Mark! I had no idea things had gotten so crappy since we last spoke. Clearly my leaving Alberta has been detrimental to your health.

Seriously, though, glad to hear you are on the rebound. Keep it up!

I hear ya on the pain. I just completely dislocated my shoulder a few months ago and as a weight lifter, a gymnastics coach and personal trainer you can understand the pain i had to go through. but it slowly got better and yours will too. Its crazy the difference bw soreness and pain. I love soreness post workout I hate pain!

Soreness is a very good thing!

I am in the process of becoming a personal trainer and when I feel sore, I know my muscles have gotten a workout. What I will tell my clients is " if you're not sore, you're not working hard enough".

I'm also training for a virtual 5K that a friend (and Olympian) is putting on called Best of the Boardrooms 5K and V5K. The Virtual begins August 1 and runs(no pun intended) through October 14th. She also has a not-for-profit organization called Go Healthy Pals which was created to help fight childhood obesity which we all know is a huge problem.

Good luck and keep being sore:)

Good relation between soreness and pain. I think athletes who train all the time often confuse pain for soreness and push themselves too much. Likewise, I think people new to exercising confuse soreness with pain and don't push themselves hard enough. It's easy to get sore or cause pain, differentiating between the two is the difficult task.
