Have you checked out the latest issue of Scientific American? There's an article on the alarming rise of Type 1 diabetes in young kids -- it's an interesting read and a non-standard take on the etiology of the disease.

Stay strong and all the best to you and your family!

Our prayers are with you guys ... not just for Christopher's health and well-being, but that every day gets more and more manageable.

You're welcome! It's no problem.

I am a firm believer that the unexpected- good or bad- brings us to wonderful things we would have otherwise never encountered. You guys will have a bumpy road in places, but I believe you have the strength to ride it, and to ride it well. I hope things continue to look up for you guys!

Sometimes it is sooooo hard to understand why we are given tests like these. One thing I have learned through mine, is that strength and love, and somehow gratitude for what could have been worse, is what gets you past the darkness of the times, and into the light of tomorrow.

Mark, I'm so sorry to hear about Christopher, I can't even imagine what you went/are going through. No apologies necessary and if you come across any e-mails from me in your inbox, save yourself some time and just delete them. I'm quite certain that none of them were important. ;)

Sounds like scary times, indeed. Good thoughts for you and your family. For what it's worth, I've had Type 1 diabetes for 24 years now, without a single complication. It takes daily attention, but today a "successful diabetic lifestyle" has become the norm, rather than the exception. Good luck!

I'm so sorry to hear about Christopher. I figured out that something serious must be afoot for your long absence both from CRN and this blog, but that's even worse than expected.

I hope you, and especially your son, are coping well. I'm pretty sure that exercise can help controlling diabetes, but I presume by now you know a lot more about that illness than most people.
