Holy cow, I’ve been so tired! The fatigue I’ve had since Sunday has been, at times, overwhelming.

I remember how I felt after the May 20, Red Deer Marathon. The comparison is pretty striking. Even though Red Deer was clearly a tougher course, I was not nearly as fatigued the week after that marathon. I remember having very sore quads (due to all the hills there) but my energy level by the next day was quite good.

In contrast, all I’ve wanted to do since Sunday is sleep! I’ve been spending my days yawning and wishing I was in bed and my nights having the DEEPEST sleeps. Muscle-wise, my calves were the ones to suffer most this time. I had some soreness in my quads and hamstrings but my calves were really sore. Really, really sore.

So, it’s Thursday – four full days after the marathon – and I’m starting to feel more or less normal. The muscle soreness is 75% gone and energy levels are returning. In other words, I’m not yawning all day long!

My appetite went insane yesterday. I’ve been ravenously devouring pretty much everything – although protein, salty and sweet things have been my body’s prioritized cravings of choice.

Hey Mark,
Take all the time you need. Bodies are amazing things, what they let our brains put them through. Now be kind to yours. :)

I just love those deep sleeps brought on by pushing yourself to the limit.

Enjoy this recovery time.
