putting my last run in perspective

I’m still a little stunned about yesterday’s run. It’s just such a huge improvement that I really want to document how it fits into my running career.

1. The run was a bit short of 12 miles. Question: Would I have been able to maintain the 7:30/7:20 pace for another mile? Answer: Easily. And at that pace, I would have – on a training run – SMASHED my 1/2 marathon personal best.

2. 7:20 minutes per mile is equal to the pace I’ve run my two fastest five-mile races. When I ran those races, maintaining the 7:20 pace took everything out of me. Yesterday’s run was well over TWICE as long and I had LOTS of gas in the tank at the end.

3. The run was done in the middle of heavy training with no taper. If I was tired, it sure didn’t show.

Yesterday’s run was one I’ll not soon forget.
