A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who’s beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

off to a good start

passion for running category: running on Thursday, June 28 2007

My goal for this training plan is to be super-consistent because if there’s one thing I’ve learned – especially while training for the last marathon – it’s that getting out there every day and doing those miles is the key to success.

So, by that measure, I’ve got a good start with three good runs in a row.

The plan is quite different than the last one Andrew had me on – I will fill in some details for you shortly. In the meantime, here are my last three workouts:

Monday: 90 minutes @ 160 heart rate
Tuesday: 60 minutes @ 150 heart rate
Yesterday: 75 minutes @ 165 heart rate

I’ll fill in the mileage sometime in the next couple of days.

Feelin’ good!

I totally agree on the importance of consistency, but how do you deal with those people who keep begging you to take a recovery week?

Hey Thomas,

I am getting better at just ignoring those types of comments. Basically, because I’ve come to learn that “rest” is relative AND that the body has a surprising ability to recover without periods of no running.

It’s ironic to me how people can be in utter amazement of ultra-runners and “streak” runners (who run x# of days in a row) but who think that the rest of the running population is somehow less capable of running every day.
