red deer marathon report part EIGHT(?!) - race photos

passion for running category: photos, running on Friday, May 25 2007

My favorite one first. It’s pretty far into the marathon - I’d say about 30k in and I think I look decent. One thing you might note is that there’s no one around me. The race was pretty spread out at this point. I’d say that I was passing runners every five minutes or so at this point.

Now, I’ll switch to early on in the race. I remember this spot of the race pretty clearly. I’d say it was at about 5k so it was pretty soon after I’d kicked into race pace. I remember it because of #122 I’m passing in the picture. See her gel flasks? She had two more on her back side and I remember thinking how differently we were approaching the whole fueling thing - her with four flasks of gel, and me with nothing. I looked up her number and she’s not in the results so it looks like she might have DNF’d.

These next two pics are at about 35k. I remember because I passed that walker (there were very few people out there!) and then spotted the photographer moments later. I was really digging deep here. Things were starting to hurt.

And, of course, the finish photo. Don’t you think I look just slightly relieved to be finishing? ;)

The funny part is that despite your descriptions of how you felt, your facial expressions and posture look exactly the same in all the pics! :D I’d say you held it together pretty well.

I think that woman with the flasks actually was carrying some type of sports drink, kinda like Dianna carries her own. Were you drinking anything from aid stations?

Dude, you need a makeover! All that grey and black–it makes you look sooooooooo washed out. :)

And here’s what I want to know: When did you stop, take off your fleece, remove the number, and then reattach it to your t-shirt? That had to have taken at least 2 minutes–there are obviously parts of this story you have left untold!

You look studly!

Thanks you guys.

Jeanne: I took that layer off at about 20k. I removed the bib and then pinned it on while running. It slowed me a bit for a couple of minutes.

Jon: I drank water. That’s it. :)

She did just under 3:52, which I think is a mighty nice time. She looks pretty strong in that picture.

And you look pretty strong in all those pictures, too.

Yup, the first picture looks great, especially with the bright yellow minimalist shoes.

You’ve certainly got lots of pictures of yourself. Is this the part where you say, “me, me, me, enough about me. What do you think of me?”

No, it’s the part where I say “Thanks for the visit”.
