A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

phase two of training is about to begin!

passion for running category: running on Thursday, March 15 2007

Coach informed me that both the timeline and my progress indicate the time is right to move beyond the base training phase and into phase two – hills!

I’m excited about this for several reasons:

  1. It’s a change!
  2. It shows I am progressing.
  3. It works on something I need – strength. This is especially important since I’ve been asking people questions about the hills at Red Deer Marathon and I know I will need a good strength component to my running to be successful there.

So, “YAY” for hills! The plan is to run nice and easy for the next several days so I am rested and ready to move to phase two next week.

Awesome. Hit ‘em hard! But don’t burn out!

The awesome thing about hills is that what goes up, must come down. ahhhhh……. And it’s nice to get a little help from gravity once in a while. Just watch the knees!

Great work — moving up! I need hill work, too. I need strength. I’m running some hilly marathons this season and actually hope to BQ at one of them…. got work to do!
