A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

saturday=one of my top five worst all time runs

passion for running category: running on Monday, March 12 2007

How Saturday went:

- didn’t eat breakfast
- spent 20 minutes shovelling 1/3 of the enormous amount of snow off my deck
- started putting up kitchen backsplash tile with Aaron
- ate a McDonald’s Big Mac and Fries for lunch
- kept tiling (wow! it’s looking great – thanks, Aaron!)
- failed to hydrate for pretty much the whole day
- drank two celebratory beers for a job well done on the tiles
- smoked a big cigar
- spent another 40 minutes finishing getting the snow off my deck
- gulped two big glasses of water down
- started 90 minute easy run at 5:00 PM

What I learned: Alcohol is definitely a depressant.

The Run: I was HOSED for that entire run. I hurt everywhere. I had no energy. Details for Saturday, March 10 run:

Time: 60:00 (it was supposed to be 90 minutes)
Distance: 6.22 miles
Pace: 9:38 min/mile
Average Heart Rate: 135 bpm (may be my lowest recorded hr ever)

But I bounced back (with some effort) on Sunday, March 11

Time: 60:00
Distance: 7.88 miles
Pace: 7:37 min/mile (a new pace record!)
Average Heart Rate: 162 bpm (extremely low! 8 beats per minute slower than previously at higher pace!)

I’m amazed that you did all that before 5 pm. Don’t knock the Big Mac, however, for your own failures.

7:37 for 60 min. Good job. You’re getting closer to your Target, Mark! Almost forgotten in my email: How much does it cost, to have an on-line coach like Andrew? Does he work with guys from other part of the world?

(I’m wondering if this post might have been offered, tongue-in-cheek. I can hope. lol).

It always surprises me that people still eat what McD’s offers (you were joking, Mark, weren’t you?? Please say you were joking…lol). Then again, it continues to amaze me that people still smoke too.

To quote Jack La Lanne, “Exercise is king. Nutrition is queen. Put them together and you’ve got a kingdom.”

Ah, so Mark is human.

Thank goodness for that.
