yesterday + today’s runs
I’ve been a bit sluggish this week. I can tell Monday’s longer long run (2:45) has had an effect. Makes sense since increases in my long runs usually do tire me a bit in the short term. I guess I better get used to that for the next couple of weeks since I’m jumping to three hours on Monday.
That’s not to say yesterday’s and today’s runs weren’t good efforts – they were. So what has suffered? Just a bit of speed. No big deal because my experience is that (generally) when I have days like this, I usually end up stronger by the end of the week. Plus, when I look over the past two week’s runs, I can see today’s run is still an improvement in terms of the average heart rate I needed to hit that pace.
Yesterday’s Hard Run

Distance: 7.49 miles
Pace: 7:59 minutes per mile
Average Heart Rate: 171
Today’s Easy Run (lots of slushy poor footing to contend with)
Time: 1:28
Distance: 10.6 miles
Pace: 8:22 minutes per mile
Average Heart Rate: 162
Depending on how I’m feeling, I may back the pace off a bit for tomorrow’s hard effort.
