A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

passion for running category: running on Sunday, March 4 2007

I would have gladly taken yesterday’s warm, slushy run over today’s attempt at running. Today, it went below freezing and what was left was the slipperiest icy mess I’ve seen in a long time. It was impossible to run on. I had near falls at least a dozen times over the course of one mile until I heard myself say “F**K!” out loud and turned around for home.

I’m disappointed because I was feeling good and thought I’d hit another milestone (7:30 min/mile pace over 60 minutes) but, upon getting out there, decided I wasn’t in the mood to break any bones.

I hope the footing is much better for tomorrow’s long run.

Result: Two miles at a very slow pace and heart rate.

Good choice. Better to pass one run today than get injured and miss several runs to come.

It won’t be that long, Mark. Are you sure you may keep 7:30 for about 60 minutes? Sorry for another incorrect(?) question, can I have you Total February mileage?

Do you guys even have Spring or Summer? Or do you just go from Fall to Winter? What about Polar Bears? Do you have those to?

Kurt: Thanks, I think you’re right.

Rus: I think 7:30 for 60 minutes will be achieved very shortly. I ran at 7:43 pace on February 25th and am still improving. My prediction is that within one to two weeks, I will be running my “hard” days at about 7:30. I am already running my “easy” 90 minute runs at about 8:00 minutes per mile so it seems logical that 7:30 for hard days will be achieved soon.

Susan: It sure seems that way right now. Haven’t seen any Polar bears yet though. :)
