A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

sweeeeeeeet!

passion for running category: running on Saturday, February 3 2007

I can’t believe how well my body has responded to the increased intensity (via pace) this week. Andrew’s little push out of my comfort zone is showing that the miles I’ve been doing are paying off.

Here are details from Friday’s hard run (less wind than Wednesday’s hard run):

59:30
7.18 miles
Pace: 8:17 min/mile
Average Heart Rate: 167

And here are today’s stats:

Distance: 10.62 miles
Time: 91 minutes
Pace: 8:34 min/mile
Average Heart Rate: 160

I was really surprised with today’s run because a) overall, it felt quite a lot easier than my Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 min/mile efforts and b) I was about 25 seconds per mile faster than those other two runs.

I was scratching my head about the difference until I remembered that those other two runs were coming home from work – a route that includes over a mile of steady climbing. It’s a long, slow haul up that hill that usually takes a few minutes to recover from.

Whatever the reason, I am very happy with this progress!

Including tomorrow’s 7-ish mile run, I’m going to round the week out at 68 miles. I am so tempted to run two extra miles slow so I can hit 70, but that might be stupid considering I have a 2.5 hour long run on Monday!
