i’m a car accident statistic

passion for running category: running on Friday, January 12 2007

My car and I are both a-ok but this morning I became a statistic after being rear-ended at a very icy intersection while driving to work.

The lady who hit me was only going about 10 miles per hour but it was a hard hit which made me fully understand how cars can get so badly damaged at what we think are low speeds.

I was lucky. Although I had nowhere I could go, I could see the lady sliding toward me so I was able to prepare for the collision by bracing my head/neck. Also lucky in that both cars were very small vehicles – almost exactly the same size so the bumpers lined up. Translation: There was no damage to car or drivers.

I think I will bus and run to and from work more.

Mark,

Glad to hear you are a-ok! I bus it and drive my car as little as possible – too many crazies on the road!

Count me in as glad you and your car are okay. I’m amazed that any modern car with it’s painted bumpers can survive even a low impact crash. Sounds like your lucky day.

You’re ok? Good!
Run to work? Think again. Your car is ok. If it had hit you directly, you wouldn’t be.
