blowin’ out carbon

passion for running category: running on Wednesday, December 6 2006

I had to work at it to get the engine running well for today’s hard run but it was worth it.

I was pretty sluggish this morning. Sluggish, but not achey like I was yesterday. The lack of aches was welcome since my last two days of running – especially yesterday’s run – were taxing.

So, in keeping with my goal to reduce the time spent warming up and cooling down for these hard efforts, I pushed hard earlier today. The legs were heavy and it took them about 20 minutes before they said, “oh yeah, that’s what we’re supposed to be doing”. Once reminded, they didn’t let me down – I was able to blow out some carbon and have a strong run. Details:

Miles: 7.07
Time: 1:00:30
Pace: 8:33 min/mile
Average HR: estimated at 165 (my transmitter’s battery died mid-way through)

Only a five minute warm-up today.

Nice work but beware – not warming up is what leads to injury and we don’t want that, now do we?? Be especially kind to your achilles tendon on each side. If you are going to cut the warm up short please give them a little stretch before you really speed up.
