A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

mother nature tests my resolve

passion for running category: running on Thursday, November 23 2006

It was -18C for the run home tonight but the windchill coming from the west (1/2 my trip home) made it like -26.

But that was so not the worst part. The worst part was the snow. There had to be five new inches of the stuff laying on the ground. It made it really tough slogging. The run took me 13(!) minutes longer than it did two days ago.

But I powered through and here I sit victorious over mother nature – for now anyway. The ol’ girl seems to have nasty stuff planned for me over the next few days!

Time: 1:42
Distance: 9.2 miles
Pace: too slow to matter
Average Heart Rate: 151

Sounds like you guys have winter up north. We’ve escaped it for the most part. Great job on your winter resolve.

When it starts to get that cold here my issue is withthe intake of the cold air, I can dress to deal but sometimes don’t breathe the ice real well. I have had some luck by breathing through a scarf! Run Good!

Sounds like just another autumn day in Canada, right ;-)

You’re right, pace doesn’t matter on days like today. It’s cold, Mark trains. It snowed, Mark trains. Everyone sits at home, Mark trains. Another 9 miles in the bank.

Race day: Mark wins.

Oh so simple.

It’s seven degrees and sunny here. I wore shorts and a T-shirt today. Sorry Mark.

The only snow I’ve seen was in upstate New York.
