the blessing that is winter
Some people hate running in winter conditions. Me? I love it. Everytime someone catches me heading out or returning from a winter run, they blitz me with the inevitable ‘you run even in this?’ question.
Yeah, I run ‘even in this’ because, truthfully, running in the cold and snow is very enjoyable. When it gets hot in the summer, all you can do is slow down and learn to deal with it. When it gets cold in the winter, you just keep adding layers.
And snow is a cushion.
Today was a 30 minute ‘hard’ run which I ran a bit slower than usual. Average heart rate was 165 – 5 bpm lower than my target. Everything still feels great. The shin is getting better every day and running in the soft snow is only going to help.
I love running in the winter. I suspect if I wasn’t a runner, I’d not like winter nearly as much as I do.
