A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who’s beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

some marathon details

passion for running category: running on Thursday, October 19 2006
  1. I’m either going to this one in Regina during the second week of September, or this one in Kelowna during the second week of October. But, who knows, I’d also consider something else in September or October. Coach Andrew may have something to say about this. If he thinks September is too early, I’ll shoot for an October marathon. I must admit it can still get pretty hot in early September so a safer bet weather-wise would be October. Stay tuned.
  2. Andrew also convinced me to do a “test” marathon in the spring (late April or sometime in May). This one in Red Deer fits the bill.
  3. At the moment, I don’t have a time goal. I have about a year ahead of me and I think the wise thing to do is put the miles in and see what my fitness level at a later point in the training has to say about that.
  4. My training plan has been graciously drawn up by Andrew (thanks dude!). It’s exactly what I wanted – a Lydiard based plan. Andrew is really helping me understand the method to Lydiard’s madness/genius. I’m excited because it’s deceptively simple (at this point anyway) but it just seems to make sense. I’ll share the plan shortly.

That’s enough for tonight. I’ll share more tomorrow.

What do you think?

Congratulations on this decision! You can just see the passion in your font when you bring up marathons!

I’ve been toying with doing the half next year in Kelowna. I think September in Regina and October in Kelowna would be equally warm tempteratures, don’t you?

Way to go Mark. Now, because I may have missed it, are you running barefoot?

I’m thinking of doing a half in Red Deer and I’ve toyed with a full in Regina. Regina at least will be flat, that’s a bonus as far as I’m concerned. It’s the actual drive there that’s a marathon for me:(

Oh no. We were so sure we had cured you and then go and fall off the wagon again. Now the poor family has to suffer through stinky shoes, complaints about black toenails, endless talk of running, and having to buy more pasta than anyone should be entitled to.

Best thing to do is apologize right from the start.

And will we be shod for said marathon training?

:)
