running is rockin’
I’ve been increasing both mileage and number of days I’m running and everything’s feeling great. Today marked my sixth run in eight days.
Last Thursday’s run was sweet. I trekked 38 minutes out and back (76 minutes total) in Millcreek Ravine — the farthest I’ve run along that particular path — and was rewarded with the most beautiful mile of trail I’ve encountered in quite some time. Stunning.
My training focus right now is:
1. Keeping cadence at 180 steps per minute no matter how slow I’m running.
2. Running in the aerobic zone. Keeping my heart rate as low as I can.
That’s it. High cadence + slow pace have been my only focus.
And I’ve been rewarded. The base I’ve been building combined with my now (mostly engrained) pose running technique seem to be working very well. On Thursday, I clocked one of the final miles run in 8:20 being careful not to increase speed during that mile. Essentially, I ran Thursday’s run in what felt like my LSD pace.
Oh, have I mentioned my LSD pace used to be 9:30? Now, you never know about these things because running is like golf in that your best game could be followed by your worst but, right now anyway, I’m feeling like if I build a good base, I could have a terrific year ahead of me.
How are you doing?
