A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who’s beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

rumours of my passing have been greatly exaggerated

passion for running category: running on Monday, July 31 2006

Hey folks! I am still around and I am planning on posting my “get fit” plan shortly.

Where’ve I been? I’ve been working on something really exciting. Something I can’t share quite yet but, suffice to say, it’s been keeping me really busy.

In other news, I am the proud owner of my third iMac. iMac #1 was an original bondi blue beauty like this one:

iMac #2 got rave reviews (even got a five star rating from PC World Magazine) and we loved it.

iMac #3 is the newer model of the one you see above. It’s Intel powered, has a built in photo/video camera, a remote control for controlling music, video and photo applications, and is more powerful than the last one – even though I found that one to be perfect in the horsepower department.

iMac #2 is still working fine and dandy so why did we buy another one? Well, in a word, because I was having a hard time sharing her and the daugher and wife needed something too. Funny huh? Most families fight over the TV. We battle over the computer.

RunnerSusan calls hers “Precious” and I think that’s quite suitable for me too since I’m very Gollum-like around it. Hey, we have the same hair!

another pink skirt victim!

Another Mark has fallen victim to the pink running skirt! Mark is also doing this for charity (or so he says). Great job Mark!

featured new blogger

passion for running category: running, running blog family on Monday, July 24 2006

With all the new bloggers out there, I thought I might introduce you to some of them. Today’s victim is Maine-ly Megin. Megin is currently training for a triathlon (rock on!) and you should see the pasta salad she’s got on there today. Yum.

Welcome to the RBF Megin! :)

new pumas!

passion for running category: pose running method, running, running gear on Thursday, July 20 2006

The shoe of choice for pose method runners is the minimalist puma h-street. Unfortunately, it’s being discontinued and there is only one color left at the Puma store.

So, it was off to ebay I went where I bought this cool silver and black pair for almost half the price of a new pair ($44 + $13 for shipping to Canada)!

I’m bidding on this pair too:

My first pair lasted me about 16 months (the upper part finally tore) so I should be good for at least a couple of years.

as you can see, i have some work to do

passion for running category: running on Wednesday, July 19 2006

I’m putting it all out there so I’m accountable to lots of people for getting my a$$ in shape. I know the lycra shorts make the fat around my waste look even worse, but I don’t give a damn – I’m gonna trim this crap off so I look good later.

Here I go. Get to more of my “before/today” pics by clicking on the image you see below.

July 20 Edit: I will be posting my get in shape plan shortly.

I’m out of shape. I know you can’t see it in this picture but let’s just say it’s a good thing I’m wearing a shirt. This is day one of a series of pics (sorry – some with the shirt off) that will provide me with motivation to get back in shape. I’m putting together a plan to make that happen. Stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy the scowl.

attention slow runners!

passion for running category: funny, running on Tuesday, July 18 2006

No matter what you think, you are not slow!

The spunky senior in the above clip was estimated to be going 2.4 feet per minute but he’s not stopping! Go dude go!

To honor old spunky, I ran a slow 45 minutes today.

land of the gods: the legend of the marathon

passion for running category: inspiration, running, running movies on Tuesday, July 18 2006

There is a new running movie on the horizon called, Land of the Gods: Legends of the Marathon.

The trailer looks fantastic – a beautifully photographed film that captures the stories of a wide range of runners (beginner to elite, old and young) while they train for and run in the Chicago Marathon.

If the movie is anything like the trailer, it will be sensational.

I can’t wait.

back from vacation

passion for running category: running on Monday, July 17 2006

Well, I’m back and I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. I hope you still love me because I’ve missed you all. :)

it was a dark and stormy night…

passion for running category: nothing to do with running, running on Thursday, July 13 2006

Have you ever sat down in front of your monitor with writer’s block?

The desire to write is there but nothing’s coming out. I’m thinking this is a result of being on vacation, and then getting sick.

My own problem aside, I have a very exciting writing tool to share with you. It’s a unique program called WriteRoom:

WriteRoom is a stripped down word processor with one unusual, wonderfully freeing difference. WriteRoom is a full screen, distraction free, writing environment. WriteRoom is just about you and your text. Walk into WriteRoom and your busy computer life fades away. The distractions of e-mail, the web, and your thousand desktop icons are gone. Only you and your text remain. This is a place where work gets done and procrastination has no place.

WriteRoom turns your entire monitor into one big black screen with a green cursor. I can’t do this justice but when you open it up, it’s…compelling.

Oh, WriteRoom is for Macs but the author also created a version called DarkRoom for you Windows/PC folks.

Give it a try! :)
