roger bannister four minute mile movie

passion for running category: inspiration, running, running movies on Wednesday, June 14 2006

Have you seen this? It’s the story of Roger Bannister and his breaking the four-minute mile. I haven’t seen it but the reviews on amazon for it are excellent. I think I’ll order it unless someone tells me that’s a bad idea.

I keep meaning to write a review. I watched it when it was first aired on ESPN; a friend of mine burned it to DVD for me so I should watch it again.

It was worth watching, but not necessarily worth paying for. The acting was pretty bad. The guy that plays Roger Bannister had this stupid expression on his face throughout the entire movie.

Maybe I’ll try to watch it again this weekend and finally get around to putting a review up after I’ve reminded myself of what I liked and didn’t like.

If you are looking for a really good running movie that you haven’t heard much about, I recommend Saint Ralph. It’s about a ten year old in the 1950s who thinks that if he wins the Boston Marathon then his mother will come out of her coma.

i saw bits of it. the final race was fun to watch, even though it was a re-creation, but overall the acting was quite silly and there was lots of junk written in.

read the book, it’s much better.

I thought it was decent for a made-for-tv movie.

The movie wasn’t bad. I taped it and I like to watch the last race scene as Bannister is flying around the track. I would agree it may not be worth buying but if you can rent it or borrow a copy from someone on here it would be worth it.

I saw Without Limits and I did not think that was a great movie so I am still looking for a great running movie.
——————————————————There is some good running footage at this site that will get you pumped up however.

Some track footage of great finishes including Hicham El Guerroj vs.Bernard Lagat in 2004 Olympics 1600 meter sprint to the finish. Also El Guerroj mile record run. Starts out with Steve Prefontaine…..some footage of Billy Mills 1964 10,000 meter gold medal for the US.
