Two Servings of Humble Pie

I headed down to River Road to test my speed…or rather, lack of it.

15 minute warmup, followed by one mile fast, followed by 10 minutes slow, followed by one mile fast, followed by 15 minutes back to the office.

The ‘fast’ miles were 6:50 and 7:15. I intentionally went slow on the second mile in an attempt to see what manageably fast was. Manageably being a pace I think/hope I can maintain for a short race – maybe a 5k.

Anyway, those miles were not very fast. If you are slower than that, this is not meant to offend. There are lots of people faster than me and some who are slower.

Those times are slow for me so, it looks like I’ve got some work to do. That’s ok. I’ve been here before.

Had any humble pie lately?

I was running a fartlek late tonight in the financial district and wound up at one of the busiest streets in Toronto. During a recovery jog next to a skyscraper, I stopped to spit. Because I’m sick, tired and dehydrated, there wasn’t much spit and it was all very thick. A gust of wind blew it onto the side of my face. It was pretty sad.

Right as that happened, three fire trucks came screaming down the street and stopped in front of me. Illuminated by the bright lights, I had a dozen people gawking at me and the fire trucks.

Susan, are you talking to me about the test run?

Adeel, for real? Or is this your way of poking fun at me? It that IS for real, it’s pretty funny!

It was about two hours ago, Mark. It was a flying workout though. I have a rough idea of how fast I was going, and I can’t really believe it. I have fresh legs because I haven’t been running much the last few days, but even that doesn’t explain it. It’s been a good winter.

No humble pie for me – I did my last 2 runs at a blazing 10:13 pace which is great for me. And then I realized that I was developing an injury. wah!
