the blogfather skirt challenge

passion for running category: running, running skirt challenge on Monday, April 17 2006

I thought I’d take a moment to update you and respond to comments on my last skirt post.

First of all, the package is on its way from Cindy and Christie at runningskirts.com who Fed-Exed it Saturday. It will contain a ‘Pinky Pink’ skirt and matching bra. ‘Pinky Pink’?! Cindy said something about pink making the challenge ’serious’ - as if my wearing any color bra and skirt weren’t enough. Oy.

So I’m more than a little nervous about wearing this little ensemble. Wearing an ensemble is more than I offered. Yeah, I said I’d wear the skirt but now the skirt is an entire outfit and it’s all PINK. That’s a lot of pink - feminine - attire. And, to top it all off, the bra part of this outfit involves exposing my midriff area. Have I mentioned I’m a 38 year-old male? Yikes! You might not want to see what you want to see.

So I ain’t makin’ any promises on the bra. However…

I can be bought. I’ll do it for money. Specifically, I’ll do it if lots of you make a charitable donation in exchange for my heroic offering. I’ve been thinking about this. On one hand, I could just pick a charity and ask you to contribute. Pam thought this charity would be a good choice but I was thinking the breast cancer pink ribbon charity might be a good one too.

Then I got thinking I could just let everyone choose their own charity - that way it’s something you care about. You’d be on the honor system but you’d have to report your donation. Not the amount (how much is not important) - just the fact you donated and where your hard-earned cash went.

Then again, maybe picking one charity is easiest and that way, we can measure the impact you, the RBF, have on that charity. What do you think? I need to hear back from you on this or I ain’t wearing no bra, bro!

Some comments and responses to comments:

1-There will be no SHAVING of any body parts.

2-Nancy: I had to look Metrosexual up and I’m pretty sure I ain’t one of those. :)

3-Susan: About the colors? See above. Sizing? I have a 33 waist and I wear a 42 suit so I have no idea how that translates to bra and skirt sizes.

4-The larger number of people that donate, and the larger amount of money you raise will determine how far I’ll be willing to go with this. You want me to run a race wearing this stuff? Then there’d better be a LOT of you making a donation.

Why am I doing this? First and foremost, I’m just having some fun. Second, I’m supporting Cindy and Christie - two gals who I think have something for the running community that I’m happy to promote. Third, I am loving the charity angle. It’s become a huge motivator for me. It’s my chance to use this blog for a really worthwhile cause. Lastly, I’m doing this for men everywhere. Fellas, please note the sacrifice I’m making to get more women to wear running skirts ;) and pony up some dough.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you. Spread the word.

Ok, I’m making a donation to the Monticello and Flower Mound Animal Shelters. I’ll donate $30 total - $15 to each. Will this work?

Cyclists shave. I’m pretty sure if Lance can handle it, a high-powered athlete comfortable with your sexuality like you can too, right?

I’m in. I WILL find a charity and donate and report back…but now you just gotta run a race wearing “pinky pink.” I think we’ll let you off with a 5k, but yes, a race! I will relent on the bra part, since not many women runners I know will run ONLY wearing a bra top. You should wear the bra, but under a cute little pink shirt! (just to get the full experience.) :)

I’m gonna go promote this event now on my site!

I don’t remember Mark saying anything about RACING in the skirt, just running on video. Mind you, I can think of a nice, remote relay race where it is unlikely for Mark to have to suffer much crowd exposure ;)

I don’t have a whole lotta $$ to spare, but have no problem in donating my time. If Mark will wear the bra in the video, I will volunteer my time at any Calgary-based charity of Mark’s choice, for a minimum of 8 hours.

lol…in a sports bra & skirt, there will be “exposure” …lol. ;-)

I bet you look purdy in pink. I think a donation towards breast cancer is a good idea and you can count me in for that. All you need is a pink hat and socks, maybe you should sign up for their walk in the summer…lol.

Ok, maybe he DIDN’T say he would race: a girl can dream, can’t she?

I donated $35 to Lance’s LiveStrong foundation.

I go away for the weekend and come back to Mark ordering himself a pink bra … errrr … ensemble? Wow.

I’m soooo in … $50 to the Canadian Breast Cancer Society. :)

You’d better define a target amount for us that would have you racing in the new attire….

Oh, to have an extra $10K laying around. :D

Then again, shelling out money to see another guy dress up in women’s clothing is not exactly good for my image.

I don’t think these “I was going to contribute to X anyway but I’ll take credit for it here” posts cut it.

How much is it going to cost us? Bottom line? Make a commitment and we’ll find the dollars. Canadian or American, doesn’t matter.

I put a link here from my blog… did you decide to go with one charity or just rely on our reports?

And you must wear the bra. Preferrably stuffed with coconuts or something suitable. Hope you ordered the right size..

I’m walking for the cure on Sunday, May 14. I’ll donate an extra $10 to the cause.

I love the charity angle too. You’re a good sport for doing this and an example of the power of one (or is it the power of pink?)
