wholehearted endorsement of running skirts

passion for running category: running, running apparel, running skirt challenge on Thursday, April 13 2006

Funny coincidence. Just the other day, I found myself over at NYFlyGirl’s place perv’n out over running skirts.

Today, I got a comment from runningskirts.com asking if I’d put a link to their site on my blog.

So, my dilemna is that if I don’t put the link up, it might be seen as a sign of opposition toward running skirts…

I can’t do that!

Hey runningskirts.com - while I won’t put your link in my sidebar, I wholeheartedly endorse your product and I hope and pray that women runners everywhere buy them.

I’m not sure I would be making such a hasty judgement about whether or not to put up a link like that on the sidebar. You would probably need to get a variety of photos of various models wearing and running in the skirts to get a good impression of how effective they are.

Isn’t Courtney Cox a runner?

I think they look pretty stupid. Like head-scarves at the Olympics.

But if you wear one, I will too.

Looks like you’d have to take teensy tiny steps in them. Mark, you go first and show us how it’s done. With video, please.

hey everyone, i’m the one who’s blog that mark has gawked over the last coupla days regarding the skirts :)

while i still love my Nike Tempo Track shorts, i think the skirts are a nice change of pace ever so often-i have the skirts that come with the shorts underneath (not the briefs)-that way i still feel covered enough :) they’re good for shorter runs, i don’t think i’d wear them again in a race or for a long run though.

and if you want to know what those skirts look like on someone who doesn’t look like the models in that ad, check it out here and here

A new poll perhaps? “Would you wear a skirt to run?” “Would you race in one?” “Should Jon race in one?” “Should Jon watch Friends re-runs in one?”

:)

I thought the skirts looked very sporty and cute! Especially since they have shorts or briefs underneath. I just bought a New Balance running skirt in black. If like it well enough, I may buy one of the chocolate/acqua skirts from runningskirts.com.

Hey Deene, while you may not think those legs in the picture look like runners legs, those legs have beat me on many marathons, Boston, NYC, CIM, and many 5 K’s, half marathons and there aren’t too many guys they don’t pass! I must admit its a little humbling to be passed by a skirt! They look great though, I only hope they come out with a mirror race chip! :) :)

Could someone please explain to me the fascination of a woman running in a skirt? You aren’t getting a better view of her legs than you get in shorts. Does it spark that adolescent thrill of maybe being able to see up her skirt and catching a glimpse of her panties? I just don’t get it.

so…I really want to buy the skirt. can anyone tell me which is the best…(1) new balance; (2) runningskirts.com; (3) skirtsports.com? I tried the one from skirtsports.com during a marathon expo, the material is really silky. Does it stick to your skin once you’re sweating?

I just wore a runningskirts.com skirt for Boston. I saw the other skirts at the expo too. The runningskirts.com are made from lighter breathable fabric and not the silky stuff that skirtsports uses. I can vouch that it felt great for the whole 26.2. I love running in it - just feel good.

i went through a big skirt quest a few months ago… and though i can’t compare the three options from experience running in them, the skirtsports website drove me so completely crazy i crossed it off the list. the reviews are all four star and irritating (e.g. oh my gosh! now i can look fresh when i’m running!) and i’ve run into more than a few fake posts on skirt discussion boards pointing to their site. but i still kind of like the others…

I have two running skirts from skirtsports.com. I absolutely love them! For one, when I run in shorts, they always get bunched up between my thighs which is a pain in the arse; not at all a problem with the running skirts (and while the material may look silky, it’s not, it does not stick to you at all). And, I get compliments all the time. I am thinking about trying on of those at runningskirts.com as I like their color combinations and they have two pockets instead of one.

Khandi,

Thank you for your feedback. It’s been interesting for me to see the opposite views many women have had toward running skirts. It seems to me that one big separator is whether or not a gal’s thighs rub together so I can certainly understand why the opinions differ so much.

I guess it just goes to show you that we are all different!

Whoa people - relax! What’s with all the criticism on the running shirt? They seem fun, outgoing and sporty, with functionality and quality. If it’s not for you, then just put your shorts on and keep running, but don’t criticize the spirit of others who dare to be different!

After wearning shorts year after year (and having them bunch up between my legs) I’m thankful that someone finally found a cute and playful way to bring a girly style to the sport!

Hi Everyone!

I’m with RoxyRunner. Ever heard the saying “don’t knock it until you try it”! :) Anyway, here is my five cents! :)

I met the Running Skirts sisters a little over a week ago at the 1st Annual Girls on the Run (GOTR) 5K in San Diego! The sisters were there supporting the cause–how awesome is that!! My sister Amy and I met the Running Skirts sisters–Cindy and Christy. They were super nice and down to earth! And guess what–they are runners too!! No posers here–sorry! :) Madison (the daughter of Christy) ran her first 5K that day and she ran it fashionable dressed in one the adorable skirts!! :) Not only that, each of the girls in the program (14 total) were presented with their own running skirt at the end of the race! The girls were thrilled!! :)

My sister Amy had been eyeing the skirts all morning and at the conclusion of the race, bought a matching skirt and top. She has since told me how comfortable the skirt is to run in (more so than shorts)! That’s all I needed–I am sold and am going to buy a skirt or two. I just can’t decide what colors to get (smiling)!! :)

By the way–what DO runner’s legs look like? Look around at your next local race–LEGS THAT RUN COME IN ALL SHAPES AND SIZES! The Running Skirts sisters are blessed to have beautiful long legs to run with (they are probably fast too!!)! :) I am a runner, I am 5′3, and have toned and muscular legs! I will never have stick thin legs and I am 125% okay with that! And guess what—that’s not going to stop me from wearing a running skirt! :) I am blessed to have strong legs that allow me to run marathons, participate in 70.3 Ironman’s, adventure races, etc!!! I love to show off my sexy, beautiful and toned (muscular) legs by wearing skirts for work and casual—and soon to be for running! Why not—I work hard with these legs!!

Beauty is all about attitude, who I am on the inside, and the positive contributions I make to this world on a daily basis! My beauty is not based on the length or thickness of my legs! I am a strong and incredible female athlete and am darn proud of the title!! :) HAPPY RUNNING!! Anne

PS: Athletic skirts are not a new invention. Terry Cycling has been selling them for years. They call them skorts. I have several friends who mtn. bike and they have been wearing biking skirts for many years—(these women are hard core mtn. bikers)! They may be wearing skirts, but don’t let that deceive you because these females know how to ride! :) I also know a woman named Leigh. She is an ultra runner and at the last 100K (approx. 62 miles) she was running in a skirt!! You GO GIRLS!!!!! :)

I love my running skirts from Sport Skirts! I love that I don’t have to worry about my shorts getting bunched up and, like someone else already said, the silky material doesn’t stick on me either. Once you’ve run in a skirt, it’s tough to go back to shorts (I use the “marathon girl” style!).

I own a number of golf skorts and like them. Since I enjoyed those, I looked into running skirts.

I bought three running skirts from runningskirts.com and love them. They don’t bunch or ride up - there was no problem with chafing that I sometimes get in shorts. I wore one on a breezy day and didn’t have any problems with it flying up because the fabric is sturdy enough to stay down. This brand has two pockets with velcro on the outside of the skirt, handy to store gels, keys, whatever. I liked the fact they were located on the outside because many of my shorts have a pocket on the inside. I don’t feel like groping down my pants to get a gel out, so usually had to wear a fannypack. The seams are not rough, and I like the fact underwear is built in so you can go without if you desire. I was very happy with the service and delivery, too. I had mine delivered in Canada, and heard directly from Cindy as to which delivery options I would like.

The bottom (pun intended) line is that I think they are very functional in addition to being attractive.
