A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

how is that toe running going?

passion for running category: running on Thursday, April 6 2006

As I was leaving from my run today, a fellow from my gym asked me that question. I’m not sure if he’d heard me talking in the gym, or if he’s read my blog but I thought it was…odd that my language (forefoot running, ball of the foot running) had been interpreted by him to mean “toe running”.

This might sound hyper-sensitive, but toe running is very different from running on the balls of one’s feet.

I don’t toe run. Capiche? :)

Did he say it sarcastically?? How odd that he completely misinterpreted what you said.

oooh one guy in my old running group ran like that (on the ball of his feet) It was SO weird to watch him run and it would always throw me off.

But he was ALWAYS sure we knew it wasn’t TOE RUNNING cause that’s just freaky.
(ps he’s almost 60 and has been running like that for YEARS and years ….he’s done boston that way 3 times that I know of!)

A fellow from a downtown nursing home did go missing for a few hours this afternoon … you sure it wasn’t him?

Oh yeah, suuuurrre, Mark. You know, the first step to fixing a problem is admitting you have it. I just want you to know that closet toe runners need not feel the shame that they once felt. There are many supports groups available such as Toe Runners Anonymous that can help you come to grips with this problem.

We’re all here for you, Mark.

I saw a guy cross the finish line at the National Marathon while toe-running. Looked v. weird. Like he was high-stepping. Maybe that was the lactic acid talking ….
