A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

Running is by definition the fastest means for an animal to move on foot. It is defined in sporting terms as a gait in which at some point all feet are off the ground at the same time. It is a form of aerobic exercise.

I tried this running thing today. Yeah, that’s how foreign I feel toward it right now. I believe I’ve been averaging about 1.5 runs a week since the reno began 6 weeks ago so I decided today would be my official return to regular running.

Of course, cardio-wise I am in pretty rough shape but all is not lost. The pose form I worked hard to attain is mostly intact. I’m making contact directly under my body on my forefeet and, I feel as though the past long while of minimal running has done a world of good in healing this old body from past marathon days.

So with little fanfare I’m back with three simple goals:

-don’t make any stupid mistakes that get me injured.
-run at least four times a week.
-build a solid six week base of slow, steady running.

And then we’ll see.

Welcome back, Mark! How much drywall dust was on top of your running shoes?

It’s probably the drywall dust in your lungs that’s holding you up! You do realize there is a very nice half marathon coming up in Calgary (not so far away) in July that would give you something to shoot for?

I am sure you have earned lots of bonus points from your wife for all the work on the remodel. I hope the break allows you to come back strong and rested.
