A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who’s beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

run, swim, renovate triathlon

passion for running category: running on Monday, January 23 2006

Aaron and I had a great 35 minute run on Friday, followed by a nice swim Saturday morning. Then I continued with my renovation by jumping into the re-wiring of what will soon be an open-design kitchen, dining and living room.

It was ugly. I spent about 16 hours crawling around in my attic doing the wiring while my Dad and Aaron did their part below (thank God for both of them). Physically, it was a huge challenge to have to crawl, crouch, lean and lay in the confined spaces of my rafters. Add to that the difficulty of having the move all the blown-in insulation around for every wire I removed and placed and…ugg.

So that was my weekend triathlon – run, swim, renovate. Next I’ll strip away our popcorn ceiling and then we’ll hire someone to put in a new California knock-down ceiling texture.

I hope you are all doing well and I apologize for my lack of presence in the blogosphere but I simply haven’t had any time.

Take care everyone!

Glad you are still alive. Make sure you wear a dust mask up there. That insulation is nasty.

After stripping off that nasty popcorn, I’d opt for a smooth ceiling. Although the texture will hide any imperfections. Maybe you can find a Canandian knock-down ceiling texture!

Hats off to you for remembering to work out in the midst of renovations … usually when that kind of stuff is happening in our house (ie. always) we forget to do stuff like eat and sleep! :)

Nice site. Maybe you could sell your workout to TLC or OLN as a new reality-get fit-makeover show.

I’m also a thirty-something father and husband who runs marathons (currently training for Chicago), but haven’t done any tri’s. Can’t swim. My six-year old has offered to teach me, so we’ll see.

Last week my wife pulled an old smoke alarm from our hall ceiling and discovered a circle of popcorn. We moved here 4 years ago and all the ceilings had it. Now, 4 years and a 500 sq. ft. addition later we discovered this last hold-out. We had a little ceremony and she scraped it off. Good riddance.

Glad to hear that hanging out in the ceiling doing new or redoing old wiring counts as training. I’ve spent my fair share of time up there. It’s not fun, but it’s good to know I’m not alone in hoping that I’m doing something physically productive.
