A Passion for Running

Well, our poor old Running Blog Family World Map died a long, slow death because Aaron and I simply didn’t have the time we needed to add you terrific people to it.

But Google’s come to the rescue. That’s right, we’ve rebuilt the Running Blog Family World Map using Google Maps and WordPress!

So, the RBF World Map is ready for you but it will only take off with your participation. That’s because we’ve set it up so that you enter your own information.

What are you waiting for? Run on over there, read the instructions and let’s get to building a map!

My Roger Bannister post from the other day got me thinking about legendary runners and that lead me to Running past – a terrific website that exists to honor those legends. It’s got facts, figures, photos and video clips of some pretty awesome running legends including Steve Prefontaine, Billy Mills, Emil Zatopek and more. Check it out!

I wish more of this was going on in schools.

Aaron and I are excited about stuff we’ve got going on at completerunning. First, we thought long and hard (okay, it took all of 5 seconds) on a new mission statement and this is what we came up with:

We love our new mission which, when we think about it, is really not so new at all. We’ve just formalized it into some fancy words that have been guiding what we’ve been doing all along.

Along with the new statement, we did a complete overhaul of the home page. It’s now powered by WordPress and we’re quite happy about how it is coming along. On the CR home page, you’ll find a growing information resource, a place to find cool running stuff, and the hub of our domain. You can even do a google search for everything we have to offer (including all of the completerunning blogs) from there. It’s finally becoming what a home page should be so please stop by, let us know what you think and tell us if there is anything you’d like to see added!

Oh, and make sure you tell your friends and families about the home page. It’s a great place for people to get gift ideas for that special runner in their lives.

Forbes recently came out with a list of what it believes are the top 20 athletic achievements of all time. At the top of the list is Sir Roger Bannister – famous for breaking the 4-minute mile barrier. To be sure, Bannister’s achievement is legendary but I wonder if it belongs at the top of the list. Personally, I might choose Lance Armstrong’s 7-time domination of the Tour de France (2nd on the list) over Bannister’s record, simply due to how long I think Armstrong’s record will stand compared to Bannister’s. What do you think?

Adidas updates its computer controlled running shoe

Great, just great. Let’s do everything we can to weaken our feet and get them further and further disconnected from what nature intended – to make contact with the ground.

Forgive me Oprah. You are the goddess of daytime tv and someone I respect very much but I think you’ve missed the point on something.

On November 21st, Oprah Winfrey aired her annual Favorite Things episode. It was a very good show (I’ll take one of those cool new black iPods please!), but I got a little miffed at one of her choices – not so much because of the fact it was on the list as for the reason it got on the list. Today we hit the 500 mark!

Wow! Our little family ain’t so little anymore huh? Oh well, the more the merrier!
