about the running
If you read this post, you know I’m having a bit of shin-splint pain and that I believe I’ve got the cause(s) figured out.
That said, I could run through this but I decided not to – to rest for a few days so it can heal. I admit there was an urge to keep running. I often tell people to do so but that’s when you have a race on the horizon and there is risk of screwing up your training.
In my case, I’ve got no immediate plans to race so I thought, “what reason do I have to keep running for the next week?”. No reason magically appeared so I stopped. And I’m glad I did because with the rest and some self-massage, the splints are 99% gone.
So, on Monday I’ll get back to running. This time with concentrated effort to get that damn right foot of mine making proper contact with ground, and on a new focus for doing some strength training and stretching exercises that will correct the imbalances I have on my right side.
S’all good.

Good plan, Mark. Shin splints suck and if you can head them off before they get bad, its a good thing. Who was it that told me to have my hips checked while fixing my shin splints? Just got an email from the Karen’s House of Pain and she said that issue in my shins is originating in my hips, based on my video. Haven’t seen the details but it might be something for you to investigate in your own form. Pull out that video camera and get a new self-evaluation of how you are running these days.
