complete this thought…
No poll today. Instead, I have this:
Today, as I was waiting for my Active Release Therapy session, there was a young woman finishing up and talking with the Doc. She was a good 100 pounds overweight and was she ever stoked and glowing about something. As I listened, I learned she’d recently taken up running and was losing weight. I became infected by the positive energy in her voice and the warmth in her smile. My ears perked up and I paid attention. So just what was all the excitement about?
She’s about to run her first race in September – a 5k.
I said nothing as I contemplated whether she’d be at the same race as I on September 11th. Listening to her reminded me of my own running roots – a time when I was outta shape, overweight, alone in Edmonton and depressed after a breakup. Back then, I too could not run 5k. Heck, I couldn’t even run one kilometer yet here I am now blessed beyond belief with health and fitness. I guess you could say, I was duly impressed and inspired by what this young lady was doing.
So, if you please, I’d like you to participate in growing this bit of inspiration by completing this simple thought:
“I remember when…”
To honor all the past and present beginners out there, I’m going to take every comment I get and put them into a post with links back to all the contributors. So let’s hear from you Running Blog Family!

I remember one day in my early running, wanting deperately to give it up. I always had before. That April day I summoned mental reserves, told myself I wasn’t a quitter, and walk/ran for 60 minutes. I have never looked back.
