Aaron and his new wifey are all tied up with lawyers (condo sale + new home purchase), plus I got a last-minute invite from “sis” Corinne so I ran at lunch today. We ducked into Millcreek Ravine for 40ish minutes which I ran entirely barefoot. It was a nice run. It even rained a bit. I love rain. :)

I’m curious about something: Do you know where your visitors come from? Do you even care?

I’d say most of mine come from bloglines. So, from people who already know about the blog. The second largest number of people get here via google referrals. Not surprisingly, a lot of them are from people searching for “running blogs”, “barefoot running” and the “pose method”. The last, much smaller way people get here is from their/other blogs and websites.

I wish I could figure it out, Mark. I have typepad, so I do have a way to see some referrals. But most of the “hits” have no identifying label. It’s strange. Or I’m just slow:) And, yeah, I’m curious. I usually think of my small group of readers, and then out of the blue, I’ll get an email from someone who has been visiting…and it surprises me.

Far and above, most of my visits come from Google searches. Then Bloglines is next. Then Google images.

The number one search word? Chocolate! Number 2? Running! Go figure. :)

I care. I like to know that I’m still “anonymous”, at least to people in my real life. It’s the only reason I look, and I’ve never seen anything alarming in that sense. For me, it’s more than half as self-referring, tons of google hits for pregnancy (really? I’m no expert!) and tips on forcing yourself to vomit (apparently “mia” is short for bulimia, the way “ana” is short for anorexia), and gardening stuff. Pretty eclectic. No running hits. hmmmm, I wonder what *that* says about me! Then there are about 20 or so referring sites that I get significant hits from. So, I don’t know what it all means. I just check every so often to make sure I’m not being stalked by a neighbor!

You’re amazing with the barefoot running, by the way. I can’t believe you’re up to 40 minutes! Did you ever decide on a goal time for the 5k?

Just for fun I typed in “butt shot” Dawn – yup my site comes up as first two choices of 554 in google. Teheheheheeeee “butt shot of mark” comes up with link to my site as well, thanks to a comment by Jon. Funny how stuff he says sometimes makes for interesting searches….lol.

I’m fully aware of where my visitors come from, and it’s a terrifying melange. My propensity to swear, most notably my use of the word ‘fuck’, combines with the asinine topics about which I write to yield search terms such as the query “can people remember what they did while on crack?

I purposely have not invoked any means to track my referrals because, as silly as it may sound, I prefer to not have any proof (to myself) that more than 10 or 12 people read my blog. Until I’m forced to do otherwise, I choose blissful ignorance.

Mark,

Most of my visitors come to my blogs from blog list pages like the RBF list or homeimprovment.net. I wish I could see what google search strings people use to get to my pages. It sounds like it can be pretty entertaining.

Speaking of the RBF, my wife Brittany and I were talking yesterday about making teeshirts for those who will be at the Vegas Marathon in December. We were thinking of having them say RBF Westside. Any thoughts?
