appetite oddity

passion for running category: running on Thursday, July 14 2005

Just a strange little thing I’ve noticed with my appetite this past two weeks. Lately, I have been extremely blase on anything cooked. My taste buds have almost had an aversion to cooked food lately, and I’ve mostly been craving fresh fruits and vegetables – much more so than normally. I seriously could eat just fruits and uncooked vegetables.

Weird. I wonder what that’s about? I believe the body tells us things through our appetite, but for mine to be wanting nothing to do with all cooked food sure seems weird to me.

Have you ever had this experience?

Yup. It gets quite frustrating when it hits actually since I’m currently out at a client site and there are pretty much no healthy places to eat lunch around here. I know I probably should bring something, but the whole mental break of going out for lunch really makes my day go better. Ah, well. Now I’m hungry, too.

It might have to do with the climate and the need for extra water, I tend to get those cravings esp during the summer. Have to stock up on watermelon.

I think that is a pretty natural summer phenomenon…even though we’ve moved away from the farm days when we were up and down with the sun, I think our biological clocks still ahere to that schedule especially those of us who pay a lot of attention to our bodies, like runners, but especially you. YOu are running barefoot and POSE style both of these styles involve a lot of thought and awareness….so it would make sense that you are craving summer foods..plus you run outside, which keeps us more in tune with the world than those who work out in gyms…

that would be my theory anyway..

Better that then your body telling you it wants chocolate, chips, beer and the like.

I’m with everyone else on the summer time theory. The rest of the year I’m drawn to stews and breads, chocolate and cheeze puffs, but when July hits I go crazy for all kinds of fruit and veggie trays. Farmer’s Market, look out!

Hmm. All that and I ended up with Nachos for lunch anyway. Freebird nachos, to be specific. Mmm. But far from naturally organic and healthy.

I will sometimes purposely limit myself to only raw fruits and vegetables for awhile when I find myself eating alot of crap. It kind of helps me realign myself physically and mentally. It’s hard to do for too long because I have difficulty getting sufficient calories unless I eat constantly, but it’s a nice (and healthy) change.

Uh oh… first barefoot running, and now joining the raw food movement? Buncha hippies. :-)

I agree with both your body calling for what it needs and the summertime theory. My kids and I ate/drank various smoothie conconctions all day today, because that’s what we were craving.
