I had the most awesome run last night with Aaron. There is absolutely no going back to the old way of running because my body is l-o-v-i-n-g the pose method. We ran 8k on a nice flat section we haven’t run in probably a year at better than a 9 minute mile pace. Everything felt so good.

One of the best parts of running right now is how good my legs feel afterward. It is remarkable really. In my pre-pose days, I would often finish a run feeling tired and with dead-heavy legs. Today when I finish a run, I certainly feel tired…but with none of the heaviness in my legs. I can only attibute this to the lack of pounding with the new form. I often feel so good after a run, I think I could run an hour later and like I could run every day. Back in my pre-pose days, I recall really needing days off especially after a couple of hard running days. We’ll have to see if this feeling continues as I build mileage and intensity but, for now, I am in awe of how fantastic everything feels.

Got an email from Nick today asking if I wanted to do some interval work with him at lunch. I asked what he had in mind to which he replied, “10 x 400 meters in 90-95 seconds with 90 second breaks in between”.

Yikes! I did something that sounded like a chicken at first and then told him I’d give it a shot. The story short version is I did six intervals in the prescribed time. It was hot and I just had nothing left plus I had some pretty strong gagging going on in the last two intervals! I finished the run with a 2km barefoot run back to the office. It was a good day. I will have to do more of those interval thingies.

Oh yeah! I almost forgot. During our run last night this chick in a car came up behind Aaron and I “woohooing” and “yeah, baby-ing” us. Okay, she was probably cat-calling Aaron but I was there too so I’m going to pretend she was hot for me as well. ;)

Anyway, this girl was unbelievable. She cat-called us from behind and then continued for like 20 feet past us. She was like a construction worker from the 50s! We were speechless with her outrageousness. I’ve never seen a woman act that way. I wonder if she was drunk? I mean, I know we’re sorta past the whole women’s lib thing but this girl was so far away from how I’m used to seeing women act, I just gotta wonder if there was something freaky going on in her head?

Weird.

At risk of getting a bunch of “I told you so’s” and “I’m never going to do that’s”, I’ve got another weird thing to share. Today, after my run I noticed the ball of my right foot was really tender. I didn’t think too much of it till tonight when it seemed to be getting worse without even standing on it. I took a close look and saw two tiny dark spots that really hurt when touched. That’s when I started thinking they were slivers.

Wrong. They were two tiny slivers of beer bottle glass! I’m pretty good at seeing small bits of glass (a pretty infrequent thing) but these were TINY bits of glass and pretty much impossible to see – even up close. Anyway, no harm done and they came out quite easily but it was definitely a bit of a wake up call that I need to keep a close watch during and after my barefoot shenanigans.

Ya know a girlfriend and I were like that one night but it was at least in the bar after several drinks when we decided to reverse the rolls. It was a lot of fun too.

Owie on the feet. One more reason I will leave my shoes on.

Hey Mark. Long time reader, first time commenter =) I guess I have to take it all back about the catcalls and harassment only women have to endure! (see my recent “Ignorant Intrusions” post).

Intervals rock, don’t they? Check out McMillan’s site for some good times to aim for if you want a training target. And I’m very glad to hear you say that running continues to get better. That’s the idea, right?
