a bit sore and tired

But definitely a good sore and tired. Just the right amount.

Specifically, it is my calves and arches that are sore. Have I mentioned that all this stuff I’ve been doing seems to be building up my previously 100% flat arches?

I actually have some arches in my feet now. :)

I am quite confident that I am more sore and more tired … ha ha … I’m just responding in a really mature way to your “I bet my butt hurt more; everything is a competition” comment on my last post … :)

Congrats on the arches!

Very interesting about the arches. Does that mean your feet are getting better or what? Pose is extra beneficial for flat footed runners than those with higher arches? hopefully tht doesn’t sound too ignorant.

I don’t think pose is supposed to strengthen your arches, what Mark is experiencing is probably the result of barefoot running. An elevated heel weakens muscles in the heel that ‘pull’ on the arch and, well, make it an arch.

Deene, ummm…I think the pose AND barefoot running work the foot in a different way than my old heel striking form did. Honestly, my feet were weak from years of structured shoes and poor form. I think the stuff I’m doing now is just setting things right.

So, if having flat arches is at least partly due to weakness, then I would say the method and barefoot running will both be beneficial to people with that deficiency.

However, I am not so sure everyone with fallen arches has them because of weak feet?

I hear ya! I had the sore calf thing from barefoot running. Stretching to shortened achilles tendons, caused by wearing shoes my whole like. If I could just wear sandals at work……

I’m so glad I decided to read every post to catch up! My arches, riht is flat and left is halfway there, were really sore!! Eeegad…but we all know how I feel about pain. LOL ;) I didn’t expect so much adjustment pain…I have laid way back on the RBF to 1-2km every 2nd or 3rd day until I get stronger. I’m so glad that you are diligent about your posting and updates Mark…I learn so much just stopping in.

Actually, I’m quite the idiot for not saying this earlier: if you have sore arches, especially when you get up, you have issues with your plantar fascia. I’ve had a mild case for the last month that’s gradually going away with icing and stretching.
