Have you noticed that I and other bloggers use avatars in their comments?

What’s an avatar? An avatar is an icon, image, or figure that you can use to represent yourself on a website.

How do you set up an avatar? First, you need an image. The image must be exactly square – 200×200 pixels in dimension to be precise. Once you have your image, you have to register and upload your avatar here. Once you register (using the email address you typically leave on blog comments) your picture will automatically show up on avatar enabled blogs such as mine, Cosmogrrl’s and Dawn’s. Don’t worry, gravatar.com won’t spam ya.

Why should you get an avatar? Well, because they’re fun and because if you don’t get one, you will look like this on my blog:

Ha! And what I have to ask is why would avatar do this? Not to be suspicious, but I’m suspicious!

It is all about links and traffic I believe Jon. Each avatar has a link back to the gravatar.com site so really it is no different than all the other linking schemes bloggers frequently sign up for. Course, I could be wrong.
