Aaron and I had another good run tonight. The goal was to run one mile continuously in pose, take a short break and then run another mile back home…Mission Accomplished. :) I did the first mile in shoes and then took ‘em off on the way home. I’m lovin’ this barefoot stuff. Tonight Aaron timed the first mile and then asked me how fast I thought we went. I said, “I have no idea…10 minutes?”. I was wrong – we did it in 7:55. Pretty darn good especially since it felt like we were not going that fast!

Then I got home, had supper and was confronted by Cassandra with, “daddy, can we go to the playground? I’m BORED“. So, I packed up the kids and off we went.

We had a great time. Cassandra and I played a game of cat and mouse where the point was to catch her before she could get a foot onto a piece of playground equipment. I never won in thirty minutes of chasing. Not even once. ;)

Not only did we have loads of fun but I got a tremendous workout as I challenged myself at every opportunity to burst out of the sand in my barefeet as I chased her around the playground. I’m convinced that the pose and barefoot running are giving me power and agility in my feet I haven’t had since high school.

Having fun really is the best way to get exercise!

Very good, Mark! 7:55 barefoot. Nice. Now, you didn’t mention where you were running. Is this trails, grass, dirt, CONCRETE?

I’m telling ya, the barefoot running is going to be the ultimate place to be. Next marathon barefoot? You’d be in every local paper you know. :)

Thanks Jon. To be accurate, the 7:55 was done on the way out in shoes although I think going barefoot would not have slowed us down much.

Maybe Aaron would have a different opinion though.

A barefoot marathon I think would be SO cool but it’s WAY off in the future! :D

Oh, and the entire run was on asphalt paved paths and concrete sidewalks.

You can’t go wrong chasing kids around. Sounds like much fun.

I’ve finished a couple of races barefoot (they began shod), but my best (and admittedly modest) barefoot accomplishment is a 3:35 kilometre I ran at the end of a workout this January. I lose the shoes every now and then, but it’s hard to find a place where I can do it. Usually I just run 5-10 strides, which I did Tuesday.

Wow, you did all that and still had time to play with my blog. You are amazing! :-)

hehe. Thanks Dawn. Although I would not say I’m amazing, I guess I do have my moments. I set up two new CR blogs last night:

That’s cool Adeel. I’m looking forward to doing some track work perhaps in another couple weeks once the method and barefoot running are a bit more broken in.

That’s not an easy one; rubberized tracks are sharp in an annoying way that really hurts, moreso than smooth pavement.

really? wow. I would not have expected that. Thanks for the warning!
