something different

In keeping with Chris’ challenge, I did a couple of different things today. First, I did a little cross-training on one of these:

MAN, that was hard work. I only rowed for 15 minutes but my hamstrings, butt, shoulders and arms killed me!

Afterward, I did some balancing on one of these:

And that was good stuff too. Good for the ankles, good for the arches, good for the core. All good stuff for running and it will complement what Aaron and I are going to do this evening – that being POSE drills.

Three new things in my belt today. Yay me!

erg workouts are an all body workout allright. I rowed for four years and college and talk about the best shape of your life. Crew is so misleading because it looks so beautiful, and then at the end of a regatta allthe rowers THROW UP. So you know, a bit harder than it looks. I’m jealous our gyms never have working ergs….

I love rowing. We own a Concept II so that is my major form of cross-training. You are so right — it works many sections of the body at the same time. I usually row for 30 to 60 minutes but my most intense workouts are when I do interval training on the rower. On several occasions I have nearly tossed my chips from interval rowing. But to avoid injury I would build up to it. I wouldn’t recommend doing intervals until one has been rowing consistently for a couple of months.
