groin pulls & swimming

passion for running category: biking/cross-training, running on Monday, February 28 2005

That title definitely will have come across wrong but I had to get your attention right?

I did not pull my groin swimming. However, Thursday night I lifted Christopher and while doing so, turned a bit funny and BLAMMO - something weird happened in my inner thigh. OUCH! Talk about pain. I definitely pulled something in the groin area.

Am I getting old? Garsh, nothing like that has ever happened to me before?

The good news is that the pull doesn’t bother me doing any kind of activity - it just hurts like an SOB when I bend at more than a 45 degree angle at the waist. Weird huh?

Swimming rocked on Saturday. I did 1000 meters for the second week in a row and got stronger at it too! My goals for the next several weeks are to eventually eliminate breaks between the 20 laps and improve swimming time for those 1000 meters. This Saturday, I didn’t take any breaks for the first two laps and then took only a 10 second break between the other laps.

The result was a four minute improvement over last week’s 43 minute “record”. This week I got the job done in 39. The “anticipated time” I wrote down on my triathlon registration for finishing the swim was 35 minutes so I’m feeling pretty good about things!

How was your weekend? Did you pull anything in your groin? How about someone else’s? ;)

I know I know - that was a BAD one.

Uber Cheesy! I did’t participate in any groin pulling to myself or others.
You’re really getting serious with that swimming. Good job.

Ouch! Ok, time for the ice bath. Are you sure it wasn’t a hamstring? You’d think you’d pull that from that angle first. Wierd. Hope it heals up soon.

Dang .. I have no groin-ish weekend tales to tell either. :) I did pull a groin delivering a baby once, and ended up getting accupuncture treatments to heal it up quite nicely.

This brings back the funny (in my own head) thing I kept telling myself during my freezing cold marathon. I wanted desperately to ask someone (preferably an attractive woman) at the next aid station. “I can’t feel my groin! I can’t feel my groin! Can you?” (For whatever reason, just this one bad joke sustained me for 12.5 miles).

Sorry about your lunchbox soreness. Stay loose.

Funny, funny. The Janks were all sick this weekend - My ma and pa, me and my lovely wife, and both boys (The baby’s a boy now - first birthday this weekend). So no groins were pulled.

Everyone’s feeling much better today, and I flailed out a half kilometer, too!

Seriously - didja get checked out for hernia? Symptoms, age, and activity are right. Just pick a doc with small fingers…

Ouch! Glad your groin pull doesn’t cramp your style (athletically that is).

Great job with the swimming, you are really rocking the pool and making great strides!!

No groin pull here either. Are you sure it’s muscular? Is it possible that you strained a nerve in your back and it’s creating pain elsewhere? It seems a little weird to get a shooting pain in the groin when bending over. But what do I know?
