Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

damn cold!

passion for running category: running on Thursday, January 13 2005

This morning I drove to work in -32C/-26F but that’s not 100% accurate since with the wind chill factor, the true “what it feels like” temperature was -44C/-47F.

Folks, THAT is cold. Cold enough to freeze skin solid in 5 minutes so I’d appreciate a few cyber-hugs to keep warm and “yes” I’ll even tak’em from you fellas!

Here we have wonderful 46 degree weather with heavy rain, but tomorrow it’s going to be 25. -32, I’ve never seen how cold that is. How many layers does it take to run in that?

The picture of of me at right with the red jacket is what I run in during the winter. It consists of two thin layers on the bottom, three thin layers on top and a cool-max felt hat + gloves. I also wear a balaclava on my face in this kind of cold.

It really is not that bad because the body warms up when you run so the main thing is to wear materials that wick the moisture outward.

Wow – that’s cold. Its getting down below freezing here this weekend, so I feel your pain – I may have to wear a long-sleeve shirt on my race on Sunday.

Toasty and warm here in Florida. I imagine when it gets “cold” it really doesn’t matter what the thermometer says; it’s just friggin’ cold.

That is just too cold. People shouldn’t be allowed to live in places like that! :) Good luck staying warm.
