No, not about running (although I’ve certainly had more fruitfull running times). It’s the bloody, damn incessant comment SPAM!!!

SPAM has gotten worse and worse around here and, out of all the Complete Running blogs, I am BY FAR getting hit the hardest. I’m averaging over 100 comment SPAM each day and that is after implementing all kinds of “fixes”. Each time, I’ve been hopeful but also eventually dissappointed when they break through 1 to 3 days after each fix.

So, here I am at the latest fix. From now on, when you leave a comment, you must type a randomly generated number that appears as a blue graphic in my comment box. Presumably, this slows spam to a crawl because it is not possible for a spam bot – the culprits behind most SPAM comments, to “see” and replicate the code. We shall see. I apologize for the inconvenience but it’s this or I’ll lose my mind.

Hmm. Sorry to hear that. I use a blacklist that catches 99.99% of the spam. If you have a blacklist filter set up already, I can send you my list… I use Movable Type, so I’m sure its a different filter though.

I was really getting hit for a while. I named my wp-comments files and did a number of the other plugins and that seemed to work. I also set up Mass Delete plug in for fast clean up. I like the method that you are using now and I have considered it for my own site.

Ok, I’m new. I read some of this blog and comments earlier, thinking what SPAM, no way. But sure enough I check my one and only post and I have 3 SPAM messages for my one and only post. Now ain’t I special!!! LOL – sorry Pam. I will likely delete them later, but not right now, I am supposed to be working, oops. :-)
