update on the map

passion for running category: running on Friday, November 12 2004

Spent some time this past couple days with the map making it look nicer and adding bloggers. I think I’ve got all the people who provided the information I needed but please go take a look and let me know if I missed you or got something wrong.

I’ll continue adding the other bloggers but, if you’re not on there and feel like helping me out, please send me your town/city, state/province and latitude+longitude in decimal form. See my previous post on this for instructions on how to obtain your decimal formatted longitude and latitude, or see Richard’s comment for what might be an easier way to go about it!

Speaking of Richard, my favorite Texan runner asked whether the map could be changed to allow for zooming and scrolling. I checked with the software developer who essentially said, “yes, it is coming in the next update”. I told him “thanks” and “rock on”!

Thanks very much for all the positivity around this! It is very gratifying for Aaron and I to give something back to the RBF!

Yikes! Ok, I forgot to mention the map on my blog. Sorry, Mark. Will put a post in late tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for doing that by the way. It looks very cool, although I am disapointed to leave Bermuda, I suppose accuracy is key.

Very cool. The only other thing that I can think of – since you’re talking to the developer and all – is that once we’ve got 100+ links up there it would be nice to show them all at once rather than with a one second delay between each one.

But its looking good. And I already used it to wander over to the Lonely Runner, just because it looked geographically interesting, which I guess is the point. Cool!

Just for the benefit of the others I will repeat here what I sent to Richard. I do have the ability to turn off the delay but instead elected to change the delay so it is a very short 0.1 seconds and the dots load really fast. I can speed it up even more if I want to.

That’s right Dianna – very geeky!

Mark?I love the idea of the map. If you want to add me to the map, you are more than welcome to (although I don?t want to give out the specifics?if you don?t mind). If you want, you can place me next to Dianna in Connecticut. Great job with the map. I can?t wait to see it fill in, even more.
