A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

do you reward yourself?

passion for running category: running on Friday, November 5 2004

This weekend marks Aaron and my third annual Nothing’s Unpossible Weekend. The next two days will be all about kicking back, BBQing a lot of Alberta beef, watching guy movies, drinking Martini’s and smoking some GOOOD cigars. An admission: We will drink beer instead of Martini’s this year since, to quote my buddy, I’m “a lot more fun when I’m awake”!

We won’t eat anything “green” and we won’t be exercising at all this weekend (ok, we might go for a light hike). In fact, there probably isn’t a lot we’ll do that is physically healthy, but just look at our faces in this photo and tell me you can’t see the terrific mental health benefits we get from our weekend!

Why do we do these Unpossible weekends? The answer is simple. We deserve it! Aaron and I work hard at our marathon training so a few years ago while sitting on my deck, we came up with this thought that we should have an annual guys getaway to a) celebrate the years work, b) reward ourselves with one completely unhealthy weekend and c) give thanks for the terrific bond we have as friends.

This year we have extra reason to celebrate. We are celebrating Aaron getting through a tough injury and surgery filled year and the terrific news I’ll soon have my running partner back. Wahoo!

Do you reward yourself for running and being disciplined about your health? I’d love to hear your stories.

If you don’t reward yourself you really should. After all, you deserve it too!

P.S. This is where we are going.

Have a wonderful time you boys!!! What a great time to get away with our beautiful weather at the moment!! I must say looking at you guys puffing on those “stoggies” makes me feel dizzy (being an ex-smoker and all).

Come back feeling lazy and drunk!!!

Thanks Lesley!

Pam: you gotta work out a deal with hubby! Lori has not asked to go away for a weekend but I would certainly support that if she wanted to!

Alberta beef? What is Alberta beef? Is that some kind of frozen cattle because there’s no way its warm enough in Canada to raise cattle. ;)

Have fun this weekend!

Cows are fine here. You just have to give them colder rated anti-freeze.

I am officially jealous on several levels. I reward myself daily. Everything I do in this lifestyle is a reward, from running my skull off, to eating all the healthy things in the world. But boy, I sure do permit myself sweets when I want them.

I reward myself with new gear (How boring!) – at the moment, I’m trying to pick out a cool distance-pace gadget that will suit my needs and meet my demands! I’m a big fan of the weekends-with-friends type events. Beneficial in so many ways – relaxing, reconnecting and just plain fun. Have fun Bro…you totally, totally earned this one (so did Aaron, for that matter).

Mark forgot to mention our motto “whatever happens at the cabin stays at the cabin.” That is why I can’t mention all the times Mark has passed out in the fetal position on the floor at 10:00 pm. Don’t worry, Mums the word buddy!!

What fun!! I went away with three girlfriends last spring for a get-a-way, and we had a blast!! We ended up getting lost driving around the mountains, but I haven’t laughed that much in a long time.Enjoy your trip:)

Not jealous at all, nope. If it were Mojitos and chocolate, perhaps…

Usually my reward for running is the race (a “celebration of my training”), and the reward for a well-run race is a nap. This February I’m taking my first running holiday at the Penguin Winter Carnival. Woohoo!

I’ve been rewarding myself (maybe a little too much) by going to my local bar Teehan’s and having a Harp every other night. I think all the “carbo-loading” is starting to catch up with me though so I’m getting back out there starting today. Have a good time!

~ I reward myself with new gear too. But I can?t afford ?technology gear?, so I settle on a new running pants or socks or whatever I feel like buying. Someday I will have a forerunner?someday! :)
~ I hope you had a fun weekend. No post yet?

What a wonderful way to reward yourself. Everyone deserves some type of reward to look forward to, it makes all the hard work that much more worth while. Hope you had fun.
