A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

anybody out there know hollie?

passion for running category: running on Monday, October 11 2004

An odd thing happened around the 28th kilometer of the marathon. I THINK I saw Hollie from the “You’re Gonna Run In A What?” blog (which now appears to be offline).

Someone just a week or so ago (I can’t remember who) ran part of the way in Hollie’s second Portland marathon. This person posted pictures of Hollie.

I swear to god I ran past a spectator who looked EXACTLY like the Hollie in those pictures. What’s more was she appeared to be cheering for someone from Portland.

I even yelled Hollie’s name but I don’t think she heard me.

Can anybody confirm if Hollie was in Victoria on the 10th?

Hollie…are you out there?

I feel like I brushed up against a ghost or something!

Happy Thanksgiving!! and great job Mark! You know where I’m coming from with these good wishes!! I’m proud that you managed to “switch” your goals and realize that the most important goal is “TO FINISH”!! Just ask Aaron about that! He wouldn’t want to deal with another person who did not finish (aka ME!). Good for you, I’m proud of you and yes, you will live another day to run the marathon of your dreams! In the meantime, do exactly what you say, run the the sheer pleasure of running!! :)

Lesley, I believe it took alot of courage to get back on that horse and run Calgary. I was both honored and privaledged to be there for your “comeback.” And Mark, I believe that it will be much sweeter for us to cross that finish line at 3:29 together!! For those of you who do not know, Mark and I rent a cabin every fall (usually 2 weeks after the marathon) for a “boys weekend” away. This year will be very different from last. Last year we both PR-ed better than our expectations. We were on top of the world and were taking no prisoners. This year I was not able to do the marathon because of a knee injury and I have knee surgury next week. As far as Mark, this year he did not get the time he wanted. It is funny how in a year so much can change. Well, next year Mark we have to count on things swinging back into our favour. I pray that both of us are sitting in that cabin with our new PR’s saying “remember last year…..groan!!”

holy cow! that was me, alrighty! was 28k somewhere around the elvis impersonator? i was cheering at the half marathon point and again at about 33k. i ran the last 8k of the race with a fellow Portlander who, i guarantee it, was much slower than you.

what a dinky world the running community is!

congratulations on your race!
