A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather - a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who’s beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

well, there ya have it

passion for running category: races/events, running on Sunday, October 10 2004

I’m a bit dissappointed with the race today.

I guess I should qualify that. I just finished running 26.25 miles and anytime anyone can do that, it is a fantastic achievement. However…

3:30 for ME on THIS particular day was not in the cards.

I took a risk in shooting for that time and I’m just fine with the fact that things didn’t quite pan out as I’d hoped. The bottom line is that the pace I needed to maintain on this extremely hilly course was not doable and I paid for it.

I was DEAD by the half and then it took everything I had just to finish.

I’ll post more later but I will share my estimated finish time - about 4 hours and 1 minute.

Sorry, if this sounds a bit bland. I’m a wee bit tired. ;)

I’ll post more tonight after I’ve had a chance to rest and ponder.

Sounds like you really went for broke out there, Mark. Rest up, and then give us the full report, because I’m dying to hear about this course and about the race.

Sorry you didn’t hit the goal you were after, and like you said, anyone who finishes the marathon (especially with your time) has done something truly amazing. I’m hoping to be there soon!

Sounds like a rough course! Kudos to you for still going at it after a difficult half though - that takes willpower.

Because of you and runners like you who take risks, the rest of us are also willing to push our own boundaries. You should be so proud of sucking it up and finishing, no matter the time. What you did was extraordinary…and you can’t be disappointed in that effort.

I’m sorry that things didn’t go as you had planned. I hope that with some rest and reflection you will feel less disappointed in what is a great time on what sounds like a difficult course.

It was a tough day for me too, Mark. I would’ve killed to have your time though. You’re still the Blogfather!

Sorry to hear things didn’t turn out as you wanted, but it sounds like a tough course. Make sure you give yourself credit for a great accomplishment in sticking it out and finishing a MARATHON! Nice work, Mark. Hope you’re resting and getting ready for the next one! ;)

Well poop-ass. Sorry to hear it! But great that you finished, and great that you’re still pushing forward. Great that you’re rolling this into all the other work you’ve done. And you still rock, no moss.

Now that I can speak from experience…Mark, I have no idea how you even went out onto that course ALONE. That feat, in and of itself, was very brave. It just demonstrates the level of grit and determination that you have! Remember, you still accomplished something amazing! AND - you continue to be an inspiration to us all.
