A Passion for Running

Welcome to the home of Mark aka The Running Blogfather – a 40 year-old dad, husband and marathon runner who's beaten injury and is on the comeback trail!

see you after the marathon!

passion for running category: running on Wednesday, October 6 2004

This will be my last post before the marathon because Lori and I are driving to Victoria tomorrow (Thursday) morning.

Good luck to you other RBF members who also happen to be running a marathon this weekend! Dianna, Mike and Hillary: You set your goal. You’ve been dedicated. You’ve put in the miles. All that remains now is the taper. Rest, eat well and manage those pre-race jitters and it will all come together on race day. There’s nothing like crossing that finish line. Nothing. Make sure you take a picture. Make sure you hang around the finish and breathe it all in. Make sure you wear your medal everywhere you go for at least 24 hours after the race. After all, around your neck is as good a place as any right? ;)

I know you will all ROCK so good luck and be strong!

Last minute advice: Go out a bit slow. You should run your first couple of miles about 30 seconds slower than race pace and make it up later. This approach allows your body to get into a rhythm and not burn it’s glycogen stores early.

I don’t know if I will be able to post anything before I return on the 14th but I’ll try to at least post my result so don’t forget about me while I’m gone!

Ciao!

Good luck, Mark! But I’m sure as the running blogfather, you don’t need no stinkin’ luck. But good luck anyway. I look forward to the report!

Speedy Mark, give your best… Would like to run with you!!!! I know more from your marathon prep (physically + mentally) than from most of my running fellows ;-) so why do you run so far away, haha…

Well, I hope that you’re checking this at least – remember, Starbucks is your laptop’s friend… Anyway, good luck. You’re fit, you’ve got a plan, and you’re going to go out there and – what was the phrase – kick that sonofabitch’s ass. Or something. Don’t forget to have a little fun while you’re at it…
